--- Notice ---
The recent news
from the EPA and NH DES is advising us that we need to implement our
Environmental Best Practice initiatives we put out in 2007
All shooting of lead
ammunition into the range property (land) must cease immediately.
We will be researching the building of a
suitable bullet containment system in the backstop of the pistol /
rifle range for the continued use of lead bullets as shown in the
EPA's BMP for lead at Outdoor Shooting Ranges. Our plan is to have
this containment devise in place by June 1, 2010. Anyone having
ideas or materials that would be suitable for this should let us
know.
In the meantime, the alternatives will be only as follows;
Centerfire ammunition MUST be "LEAD FREE". Some choices for this are
SBR GREENMATCH and DRT Lead Free Ammunition. Bullets for reloading
are available from Frangible Ammo. Information for these are
available at the following web sites;
www.sbrammunition.com 380, 9mm, 40S&W,
223, 30-06, 308, 300Win Mag
www.drtammo.com 9mm, 40S&W, 45, 223
http://www.frangibleammo.com/default.aspx
380, 38, 357Sig, 44, 45, 5.7x28, 9mm, 40, 223, 308, 12GA slug.
Some calibers of SBR and DRT are available from Cheaper Than Dirt
and Midway. Frangible bullets can be purchased directly. They may
also be available through other suppliers. We have not checked
further.
Rimfire ammunition (.22 Long Rifle, Long and Shorts) can be used
ONLY with a bullet trap such as the Outer Bullet Traps with paper
targets. You can bring your own trap or use one of the traps in the
clubhouse. If you take one out, please remember that they are for
.22 only and to return it to the clubhouse when you're done. These
are on loan.
We will plan on discussing plans for the containment system(s) at
our Monthly Meeting on March 3rd.
Other than the above alternatives, NO LEAD BULLETS on the range. WE
WILL FACE SERIOUS FINES AND TOTAL CLOSURE, IF WE DO NOT COMPLY
